What We Do.

Sompting Wildlife Rescue & Rehab opened it doors officially in 2019, but we have been operating for about 15 years previously to that.

We wanted to give you a better idea of what kind of work we are involved in and what we do for the UK wildlife. We are both Veterinary Nurses with a apssion for animals, this includes wildlife.

Firstly, we are not an ordinary rescue and rehab, we specialise in injured wildlife, that may require a longer than normal stay to recuperate before its eventual release. Examples would be Gulls with fractured leg/wings, Hedgehogs with leg injuries or temporary neurological issues, Pigeons with cat bite wounds, which will heal with a bit more time, but other rescues are unable to provide those facilities. We also understand that vet clinics do not want wildlife in their practice long term either.

Some of our wildlife may only be with us a few days, others are "fostered" until spaces in larger rescues become available, but most of our wildlife is here a few months.

With this in mind, we are only able to take in a small number of animals at a time.

The time and effort in sucessfully rehabilitating injured wildlife is quite long and time consuming, therefore we do not want to over stretch ourselves with extra wildlife and compromise our care to existing patients.

We work closely with several veterinary clinics, who are able to deal with our wildlife, these are Coastway Vets Shoreham and New Priory Vets in Brighton We also work with other larger organisations. You can see more about these in the Links section, which should be live soon.

We are able to help with local wildlife rescues, and offer help and advice should anyone require it and if we don't know the answer we will try and point you in the right direction.

Along with the wildlife, we have our own extensive list of rescued animals which we look after. You can see more of these in our gallery. (opening soon)
